Fonterra intends to enter Egypt within the next year as part of its plan to expand in the Middle East.
Dubai-based region manager for the company’s consumer products unit Amr Farghal has confirmed to just-food that Fonterra has set its eyes on Egypt’s 80m population.
It is currently working on the product line-up for the Egyptian market, which will be supplied by products sourced from the company’s Saudi base.
Fonterra’s interest in the Middle East is fuelled by the increase in tourism and oil revenues. The group also highlighted strong growth in the country’s dairy market, with consumption rising by 8% per year.
