German retail giant Metro Group has reaffirmed plans to open its first wholesale store in Egypt.

The retailer announced last year that it would open a store in the country as part of its expansion plans.

It is understood Metro will add a further 20 stores in Cairo at a later date.

A spokesperson for the firm declined to comment further ahead of an official announcement tomorrow (29 June).

The 10,000 sq m facility will offer around 20,000 food and other products and is expected to open on Wednesday, according to Reuters.

Some 90% of the products on offer will be Egyptian.
