A new online questionnaire will give food companies across the EU an opportunity to give their opinion on the European Commission’s proposal for new nutrition labelling rules.
According to European Advisory Services (EAS), which created the questionnaire, companies can use the opportunity to calculate the potential impact of the Commission’s plans on their businesses by providing information about current labelling practices.
The questionnaire forms part of a broader impact assessment on nutrition labelling undertaken at the request of the Commission. Over the past year, the European Commission has consulted widely on nutrition labelling and improvements that can be made to existing voluntary rules.
Particular attention has been given to merits of mandatory labelling, the benefits of labelling saturated fats and sugars and the need for transition periods and exemptions. The information provided by companies will assist the Commission in finalising its proposals and accommodate any potential difficulties faced by operators, EAS said.
