The European Commission has approved the proposed acquisition of the Italian company Onama Spa by Compass of the UK.
Both companies are active in the contract food service markets where food and drink is supplied outside the home, typically on the premises of customers.
Brussels said its investigation focused on the Italian and German markets where it found that in both cases “many strong competitors compete energetically for contracts” – specifically Sodexho, Gemeaz Cuisin (Accor), Camst and Ristochef (Elior) in Italy and Pedus, Aramark, CWCS, Apetito and K&S Catering in Germany. The acquisition therefore raised no significant competition concerns, the Commission said.
