The European Union (EU) is funding a two-year programme to promote and monitor good quality meat production in its new eastern and southern member states.

The QUALITYMEAT project will stage information sessions for meat producers and “brokerage events” where researchers and industry experts meet and exchange project ideas to create consortia to bid for EU research money under Brussels’ ongoing sixth framework programme.

QUALITYMEAT meetings will focus on improving total food chain management and traceability, animal welfare, feed analysis, detection and control, plus healthy production. A database of eastern and southern meat researchers and research groups will also be created.
