Europe’s fruit processors have warned that fruit prices are on the increase throughout the continent.

The European Fruit Preparation Manufacturers’ Association (EFPMA) has sounded a warning about a shortage of fruit in Europe and a possible rise in production costs.

The EFPMA said manufacturers of jams and fruit spreads are facing price increases for fruits including strawberries, raspberries and apples due to a reduction in harvests.

Late frosts in spring and recent heavy rain in Eastern and central Europe has led to a reduction in the supply of fruit; stocks of strawberries in Poland are estimated to be down by up to 40%.

“The manufacturers of fruit based products will have no choice but to increase their prices to compensate, if only partially, the considerable cost rises,” the EFPMA said.
