French beef cuts market leader Bigard has sold its high-end brand Valtéro to Brittany-based Montfort Viandes Group for an undisclosed sum.
Bigard said that the disposal met obligations set by the French competition regulator for the approval of the group’s 2009 acquisition of Socopa. The same process saw Bigard sell off four processing plants to Elivia, the beef and pork business of French co-op Terrena, in March last year.
Bigard employs more than 17,000 staff, spread over 41 sites and generates an annual turnover of close to EUR5bn (US$7.31bn).
