At total of 8,500 staff work at its HQs in France. The company says the job cuts are part of an internal re-organisation move focusing on re-deploying staff at supermarket outlets and will not involve compulsory redundancies.


The redeployment will be implemented on a gradual basis from the first quarter of 2006 to the end of 2007.


The CFDT staff union claims that Carrefour has already reduced its non-retail workforce in France with cutbacks in after sales service, accounting and IT.
