Production at several Danone factories could be threatened by stoppages as France’s Confédération Générale du Travail trade union called for a strike across all the company’s French plants. The move follows weeks of uncertainty after a memo was leaked suggesting that Danone management had earmarked ten biscuit factories for closure.

Danone says nothing has yet been decided as it is reviewing company structure and will release its decision in mid-April. However, given the extraordinary detail contained in the memo, many employees and the trade unions are sceptical, and the calls for a general strike follow weeks of wildcat strikes and stoppages.
