Cooperative group Euralis, France’s leading producer of foie gras, has strengthened its presence in the prepared foods segment, taking a 20% stake in Brittany-based delicatessen Stalaven.

Euralis is keen to develop synergies between Stalaven and Papillote, a high-class catering firm based in northern France in which it took an 80% stake last year.

The alliance with Stalaven gives Euralis access to a large network of butchers, delicatessens and caterers providing outlets for its range of foie gras and offering bigger margins than in the supermarkets.

Stalaven supplies fresh products and prepared foods, from starters to desserts, to around half of the independent traders in the Paris region.
