Italian chocolate maker Ferrero has created 40 jobs at its French plant in Villers-Ecalles in Normandy.

The plant, in which Ferrero has invested EUR6m (US$7.8m) since 2010, produces Nutella chocolate spread and Kinder Bueno chocolate bars.

The move is a result of increasing production volumes, a spokesperson for Ferrero’s French unit told just-food.

Twenty staff have already been hired and the recruitment of another 20 is taking place. In the current financial year, a further ten jobs could be created, taking the workforce at the plant to almost 400.

For the year to the end of August, Ferrero generated sales of EUR1.2bn, up 13% on the previous 12 months. Ferrero has doubled is turnover in France since 2000.
