French dairy giant Lactalis, which produces the President and Valmont dairy ranges, has unveiled plans to build a US$13m production plant close to Moscow.

Work on the plant, to be situated in the Istra district, will begin when district governor Boris Gromov gives the appropriate orders.

The Lactalis-Istra plant will produce up to 6,000 tonnes of processed cheese annually, said the company, and will help boost sales in Russia.

Lactalis currently controls about 1% of the Russian processed cheese market.
