French supermarket chains have come to the fore with donations of money and goods to the tsunami disaster appeal.
Système U has given €400,000 (US$529,000) to charter a freighter aircraft which will carry 20 tonnes of relief supplies to Aceh, in Indonesia, today [Thursday].
Carrefour has already donated €300,000 and via its supermarket situated at Medan , 150km from Aceh, has operated a convoy of 20 trucks each carrying 30 tonnes of foodstuffs and water.
Meawhile, Auchan has donated €100,000 towards the funding of a Red Cross medical unit in Sri Lanka.
