France’s agriculture minister has said that the US is lifting its eight-month ban on imports of certain French pork and poultry products, including foie gras.
Herve Gaymard said US health officials had visited four meat and poultry production facilities in France in the last month, reported The Associated Press. The visits apparently alleviated US concerns about food safety that had had prompted the ban.
“The United States, I am happy to announce today, has lifted the embargo and authorised anew the importation of foie gras and pork-based products, attesting to the quality and reliability of our system,” Gaymard was quoted as saying.
