The company sells its mochi under the La Compagnie du Mochi brand to retailers and, in the foodservice sector, markets the frozen desserts as Mochiri.

In a statement, Onoré CEO Alexandre Vigneron said: “The integration of So Mochi marks a new chapter in our growth strategy, as we expand our offering.”

Just Food has asked Onoré for further details on So Mochi’s sales performance, the presence of the business in the category and geographically, as well as the new owner’s plans for the asset.

In the same statement, So Mochi co-founders Julien Biondo and Jonathan Stioui said: “We chose to partner with Onoré because we share core values: innovation, excellence, and a deep commitment to our clients. Together, we firmly believe that we can deliver high-performance solutions and tackle the challenges in our industry, paving the way for our mutual success.”

The deal to buy So Mochi – terms were not disclosed – is Onoré’s fourth acquisition in two years.

In December, the company snapped up UK foodservice supplier Cakesmiths, which sells sweet and savoury snacks to coffee shops in the UK, as well as directly to customers online.

The acquisition of Cakesmiths followed a deal in March to buy UK savoury-pastry business Proper Cornish. In 2022, Onoré bought macaron supplier Mag’M.

Toulouse-based Onoré itself has been majority-owned by Waterland Private Equity since 2022.

In the statement announcing the So Mochi transaction, Onoré said its turnover was £175m ($221.2m). The company employs more than 1,000 staff.
