The EU commission has announced a case of swine fever in Soltau-Fallingbostel, Germany. A 3km protection zone, and a 10km observation zone, has been established around the affected farm. An eradication program is in action.

The area is populated with wild boar, believed to be the source of the infection around 4 June. The affected pigs have been slaughtered.

The affected farm is only 250 km from the Danish border, and the Danish food ministry warned summerhouse owners to ensure German guests do not feed Danish pigs with leftovers. Also, tourists were told not to bring home pork products produced in countries with swine fever.
