Metro Group’s cash-and-carry unit has declined to comment on reports it is looking to make “significant” job cuts in Germany.
A spokesperson for Metro Cash & Carry said it would not comment on “employee issues or rumours” following reports the retailer has plans to reduce its second tier of management in Germany.
The news follows an announcement in May this year that Metro is working on creating “efficient” and “cost-oriented” re-organisations in central administrative functions, including IT, logistics and real estate functions.
The spokesperson, however, said the cost savings plans do not apply to Metro Cash & Carry Germany. She told just-food: “In total we expect a cost-saving potential of EUR100m, especially at the headquarters in Düsseldorf and the affiliated administrative centre. These plans do not apply for headquarters of Metro Cash & Carry Germany.”
