German grocery retailer Spar has said it plans to cut 1,000 jobs at its wholesale division as part of a restructuring plan.

The company plans to close a warehouse in Langenweddingen in the east of the country at the beginning of the year and streamline its wholesale operations in six other cities, reported Dow Jones International News.

“We must reorganise our wholesale organisation competitively to be a more efficient partner for our retail stores and the industry,” chief executive Stephen Schelo was quoted as saying.
