Imports of edible oil into India rose from 536,000 tonnes in June to 579,000 tonnes in July as people stocked up for a series of major festivals in August, September and October.

July imports comprised broadly 244,000 tonnes of degummed soyabean oil, 194,000 tonnes of crude palm oil, 89,000 tones of crude olean; 25,600 tonnes of refined palmolein and 17,000 tonnes of crude sunflower oil, says a report in the financial daily, according to industry portal Oilmandi.com.

Crude palm oil and crude olein constituted about 70 percent of total imports, the report said. Once domestic oils start flowing in September, imports are expected to fall dramatically.
