Indian beverage company Rasna is reportedly close to acquiring popular household brands Brown & Polson custard and Rex jelly from Indian consumer goods giant Hindustan Lever.

Hindustan Lever, a subsidiary of Anglo-Dutch consumer goods giant Unilever, put the brands up for sales last year, according to a report in the Economic Times.

Rasna, the report said, has emerged as the highest bidder for the brands, which will be sold for between R220m and R250m (US$4.6m-5.3m).

Rasna will not, however, buy the brands’ manufacturing facility at Thane because the factory also produces Hindustan Lever’s Knorr range of food products.
