Basmati prices are rising daily as poor rainfall in key cultivation regions in India and Pakistan persists.
Tilda, the company which sells 70% of all branded basmati rice, said the crop is down 25% on last year and is at a seven-year low, reported the Guardian. Tilda has not hiked retail prices for its pure basmati for eight years, but is now raising prices by about 10%.
Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have been particularly hard hit, Tilda reported.
