Irish Agriculture Minister, Mary Coughlan, has rejected the introduction of “traffic-light” food labelling proposed by opposition members in the country.
According to the Irish Independent, Fine Gael and the Labour Party have proposed the system, which would show the levels of salt, fat and sugar in all food products.
In the UK, the Food and Drink Federation, together with leading food manufacturers and supermarket chains, have thrown their weight behind an alternative GDA system instead of the Food Standards Agency’s traffic light scheme, which was launched last year.
