US fastfood chain Subway Restaurants has said it has overtaken the number of McDonald’s outlets in Northern Ireland and said it plans to do the same in every market it enters.

The company, which is the world’s largest submarine sandwich chain, now was more than 20,000 outlets worldwide, with more than 220 in the UK and Ireland, and now has 27 in Northern Ireland.

Milford, Connecticut-based Subway said it plans to overtake the number of McDonald’s stores in every market that it enters, “and across the UK and Ireland that’s over 2,000 outlets by 2010”, the company added.
