A statement by Israel’s Lycored Company, which claims to be the only company in the world to process lycopene in its natural form, has revealed that numerous epidemiological and clinical studies have shown that its product Lyc-O-Mato® can have several health benefits. Lyc-O-Mato™ is a natural tomato extract rich in lycopene, phytoene and beta-carotene.

“Unfortunately, the results of much of the scientific research into the health effects of tomatoes have been erroneously and unscientifically attributed to lycopene alone. The health benefits of Lyc-O-Mato® are superior to the benefits of lycopene alone,” says the company.
Ongoing research has led scientists to believe that synergism between lycopene and other tomato phytonutrients, will enhance its ability to curb degenerative diseases. The synergistic effect of natural composition of tomato phytonutrients was demonstrated in several studies including clinical research by Dr Omer Kucuk with prostate cancer patients; a blind, placebo-controlled study by Esther Paran, MD, evaluating the effect of Lyc-O-Mato® on 35 mildly hypertensive patients; Dr D Aviram’s research on the effect of tomato extract on LDL cholesterol, and studies by other researchers demonstrating the effective synergy of tomato phytonutrients in reducing proliferation of prostate and breast cancer cells.
“This last work, quite effectively demonstrates that lycopene is not therapeutically effective when present at a relatively low levels normally found in the blood even after supplementation,” according to the statement. The effectiveness of the low lycopene concentrations that are possible to attain, occurs only when the lycopene is presented along with other phytonutrients naturally present in tomato and tomato extract.
