For the first time in a decade, year-on-year processed food exports from Israel rose – in 2003 processed food exports totalled US$506m, 18% more than in 2002.
Exports to North America rose by 24% to $87m, and exports to Europe rose by 16% to $523m.
According to data supplied by the Israel Export Institute, exports of tehina rose by 52% to $52m, confectionary by 75% to $17.5m, fruits and vegetables by 3% to $150m, meat and poultry by 10% to $40m, and wine and alcoholic beverages by 44% to $11m. In 2003, 845 food exporters operated in Israel.
