The economic recession in Israeli is making a negative impact on Israeli supermarket sales, figures show.

A sharp drop in wages and the standard of living has had an inevitable impact on food purchases. Food sales in supermarkets and shopping centres stayed level in the month of April, largely thanks to the holiday, but have declined by 4.2% over the past three months.

According to a report on Globes, retail sales have declined over the past 12 months for almost all product categories, with sales of electrical appliances and durable goods down by as much as 41%.
