Japanese supermarket operator Aeon has said it plans to open more than 170 “Super Center” stores in Japan within the next four years.

The company has not yet decided on the locations of the stores or the level of investment, but a spokesman said Aeon plans to have a total of 180 such stores by around 2008, reported Dow Jones International News.

Aeon, Japan’s largest supermarket operator in terms of group sales, currently operates six of the larger-scale low-price Super Center stores in Japan and plans to open three or four more in the current fiscal year to February 2005.
