Japanese ingredients and seasonings giant Ajinomoto has revealed that it aims to “more than double” its share of the strictly controlled market for monosodium glutamate (MSG) in China over the next three years.
China is currently home to the largest MSG market in the world, but Ajinomoto controls just 6% of these sales because it faces strict government regulations.
The president of Ajinomoto’s global foods and amino acids businesses, Takuzo Kitamura, insisted however that the company can boost this share by expanding its distribution network, and maybe even forming joint alliances with established Chinese companies.
