The number of retailers boycotting products manufactured by Japan’s largest ham and sausage processing group grew this weekend with news that more Nippon Meat Packers’ board members were involved in a scam to mislabel beef and pick up government BSE subsidies.

By Saturday, major retailing chains Aeon and Seiyu had decided to ship products back to the company. Major convenience store chains, 7,600-store strong Lawson and Ministop, which controls 1,500 outlets, also joined the boycott.

Supermarket giant Ito-Yokado and convenience store empire Seven-Eleven Japan also removed Nippon Meat products from their outlets nationwide.
