Japanese company Takeda-Kirin Foods Corp Co and South Korean food company Daesang Corp have entered into a joint venture to produce food seasoning in Indonesia, the Dow Jones newswire has reported.

Takeda-Kirin is 66% owned by Kirin Brewery, while the remainder is controlled by Takeda. At an estimated cost of US$80m, the JV will renovate a monosodium glutamate factory owned by the South Korean company.

When work is completed, the plant will have the capacity to produce 6,000 tonnes of nucleic acid-based flavour enhancers. Production is expected to commence in mid-2007.

Takeda-Kirin and Daesang will market the nucleic acid-based flavour enhancers separately.
