Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has decided to maintain its ban on imports of beef and beef products from Canada for the time being because of ongoing concerns about the spread of mad cow disease.

A formal decision on the matter will be made after the ministry receives a final report, due this week, from an investigation team that recently visited Canada.

The Japanese delegation visited Alberta, the Canadian state where a lone case of BSE was reported in May, reported the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
