Japan’s once scandal-hit Snow Brand Milk Products says it will shortly announce findings on research that it says will lead to more functional foods that could provide the same powerful benefits as mother’s milk.
The company’s latest research on lactoferrin, an iron-binding protein particularly rich in human milk and present in bovine milk will be presented at the 2004 Japan Dairy Science Symposium to be held on 8 September.
Snow Brand is also working on the genetic engineering of human milk components, as iron absorption is known to be higher from human milk than from infant formula or cow’s milk.
