Japanese food group House Foods has snapped up US soy products firm El Burrito Mexican Food Products.
The deal, announced for an undisclosed sum, will see the Japanese manufacturer expand its portfolio to include soy lines.
“Adding healthy Mexican food products to our existing Asian line will allow us to offer consumers a wider variety of healthy lifestyle choices. In the US market, where many different cultures coexist, we anticipate accelerated growth and expanded profits as a result,” Shigeru Natake, president of House Foods’ US subsidiary, said today (13 November).
House Foods said El Burrito “pioneered” the sale of soy products with “traditional Mexican flavour”. El Burrito’s brands include Soyrizo, a meat-free product in the Mexican category.
