The deal, which sees Calbee acquire 80% of Warnock’s shares, follows the Tokyo-based firm’s acquisition of UK crisp maker Seabrook a year ago.

Founded in 1986, Warnock Food Products, based in Madera, California, makes organic, gluten-free, non GMO, kosher, whole grain, and peanut-free snacks. In the year ended December 2018, it recorded sales of US$41.7m.

Calbee said: “Calbee has positioned the expansion of its overseas business as one of its growth strategies and the North American market is one of the key regions.”

It added: “Through the acquisition of Warnock we aim to expand Calbee’s product portfolio in the US snack market, the world’s largest market, leveraging its product development capability and distribution.”
