Intersnack’s UK arm KP Snacks has confirmed it is to close its Consett plant in 2015, a move that is set to see more than 100 jobs go.

Plans to close the plant and a second facility in Corby were announced in September, though at the time a spokesperson told just-food “no final decisions” had been made.

The Hula Hoop owner said consultation over the fate of the Consett factory had now ended and the company has taken the decision to close the site.

However, the company did not confirm whether there had been any progress in discussions for the Corby site. If it closes, up to 83 jobs are at risk.

Officials at the GMB union had not returned a request for comment at the time of writing.
