Lantmännen Unibake, the Sweden-headquartered bakery products group, has acquired Stockholm-based baguette supplier Anderson Bakery.
The deal, struck for an undisclosed sum, will see Anderson Bakery, with its 30 staff and annual sales of SEK75m (US$8.4m), join a business with more than 35 bakeries worldwide generating yearly net sales of EUR1bn (US$1.06bn).
Anderson Bakery was founded in 1984 but since 2002 has been concentrating on bake-off baguettes. Lantmännen Unibake said Anderson Bakery was one of two suppliers in Sweden making bake-off baguettes for the domestic market.
“This acquisition supports the Lantmännen Unibake growth and strengthens our bakery business in the Nordic countries,” Werner Devinck, the CEO of Lantmännen Unibake, said.
The deal is the second struck by Lantmännen Unibake in five months. In September, Lantmännen Unibake snapped up Frozen Bakery Products SA, a supplier of hamburger buns based in Romania.
Lantmännen Unibake is part of Sweden-based agri-food group Lantmännen, which markets products from breakfast cereal to pasta and also interests in agriculture, machinery, bioenergy. The annual sales of the Lantmännen group are EUR37bn.
