French retail giant Carrefour has remained silent on reports that it is planning to open 100 Carrefour Express outlets in the Malaysian market.
A spokesperson for Carrefour confirmed the ongoing importance of Malaysia to the group’s strategy, but declined to comment on any expansion plans the company may have in the market.
“We do not communicate on this project,” the spokesperson told just-food.
At the end of December, Carrefour operated 16 hypermarkets in the country, the spokesperson said.
Fourth-quarter sales in the country grew 16.7% to EUR84m (US$107.4m), the group revealed in its fourth-quarter sales release last month.
