A food price index to help guide consumers is being compiled by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry. Minister for the government department, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin revealed that the index is a direct response to the current trend of increasing food prices.

The minister explained that the index would include price comparisons of popular and regularly used items in different districts in Malaysia. This information “information will be announced from time to time so that consumers can plan what they buy with their limited earnings and make the best choices.”
