Mars Inc has added a Snickers production line to its chocolate factory in Dubai.
The confectionery group said it had spent US$60m on expanding the plant, which is located in Jebel Ali Free Zone.
The new line will increase the site’s production capacity from 60,000 to 100,000 tons per year. Mars said the move has created more than 50 jobs to work on the line.
Earlier this month, Mars formally opened a new plant in Saudi Arabia. The factory, in King Abdullah City, produces Galaxy chocolates. The US company announced plans for the site in 2012.
Mars said the facilities in Dubai and Saudi Arabia will help it meet local demand, as well as that in 30 additional markets across the Middle East, North Africa and the subcontinent.
