Go forth and export, was the message Mexican ranchers have received from Javier Usabiaga Arroyo, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fishing and Food.
Usabiaga revealed that there are no risks of BSE contamination in Mexican cattle, and that comprehensive checks at all entry points in the country have not detected any contaminated meat.
For the country’s ranchers, this means a welcome opportunity to boost export sales, according to Usabiaga.
A senior official from the agriculture ministry, Juan Garza Ramos, added that Mexico would most probably lift its ban on Brazilian beef imports within six weeks.
