Mexican tortilla maker Gruma has announced that its Mission Foods division is to open a new tortilla manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution centre in Wright Township, Pennsylvania.

The US$33.9m project in Crestwood Industrial Park is expected to create at least 232 new jobs within the next three years. The plant’s size will be 110,000 square feet in 2005 and is expandable to 150,000 in 2007. The operation will be starting up by the second quarter of 2005 and will serve the northeast market with fresh, locally made products, the company said.

Mission Foods manufactures corn and flour tortillas, tortilla chips, taco shells and tostadas for both foodservice and retail customers.
