New Zealand dairy giant Fonterra has taken out a series of newspaper advertisements designed to distance the company from European dairy producers, who are facing a boycott across the Middle East following the publication of cartoon depictions of the Prophet Mohammad in European newspapers.

The ads have emphasised the fact that Fonterra merchandise, notably Anchor milk powder, comes from New Zealand by printing “New Zealand” in large type next to pictures of the product, the New Zealand Press Association reported.

Although the cartoons have been reprinted in New Zealand newspapers, the company hopes to avoid the Muslim boycott of produce by distancing itself from the cartoons’ European origins
