India is the latest market to see Mondelez International launch a chocolate bar under its Cadbury and Oreo brands.

The US snacks giant, which has launched Cadbury and Oreo co-branded products in markets including the UK and Australia, has rolled out a Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk Oreo bar in India.

Prashant Peres, director of the marketing of chocolates for Mondelez’s Indian arm, said: “We are really excited to launch one of our globally loved platforms in India, in the form of Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk Oreo. Indian consumers now demand unique formats and eat experiences and given our global leadership in chocolate, we are well positioned to identify and bring some of our world-leading brands to India. What’s special about Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk Oreo is its unique product format with smooth, creamy, Silk on the outside and crunchy Oreo cookie vanilla cream on the inside, which melt in your mouth to give you an indulgent yet crunchy Silk experience.”

He added: “The next few years will be exciting for us especially with India’s chocolate market poised to be one of the fastest in the world. We see this as a huge opportunity to expand our chocolate footprint within the country.”

The new bar will initially be available in Big Bazaar stores and via online platform Paytm. Mondelez said the product would then be available in 100,000 traditional trade and modern stores in early January. Two bars have been launched, priced at INR75 (US$1.10) and INR70.

Mondelez, meanwhile, confirmed today it to pay a fine as part of a settlement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission over the company’s internal controls – although the deal carries no admission what is now a subsidiary in India paid a consultant to bribe local officials to secure approval for the expansion of a plant in the country.
