Dutch retailer Royal Ahold today (2 October) announced the appointment of Johan Boeijenga as president and CEO of the company’s Central European operations. Boeijenga currently serves as executive vice president of supply chain and he is also a member of the executive board at Albert Heijn.

Boeijenga succeeds Jacquot Boelen, who has resigned in order to pursue opportunities outside the company, Ahold said.

“Johan’s extensive knowledge of the retail business makes him ideally suited to lead the team and maximize our opportunities in this region,” said Ahold president and CEO Anders Moberg. “He will be bringing considerable talents and experience to his new role.”

Boeijenga joined Ahold in 1988 and during his time at the company he has gained experience in logistics and supply chain at Albert Heijn and also served as CEO of Ahold’s former operations in Indonesia. Boeijenga was appointed to his current position in 2003, where he has lead Albert Heijn in building its logistics capability and helped to reposition the company.
