Dutch retailer Royal Ahold is considering a large acquisition for the first time since a 2003 book keeping scandal, CEO Anders Moberg has said.

The company is seeking acquisitions in markets adjacent to its European and North American retail operations, a report in the Financial Times says. In the short-term, the company is seeking growth through smaller acquisitions and store refurbishments.

Reportedly, were the Dutch competition commission Nederlandse Mededingingsautoriteit to give them the go ahead, Ahold would look to purchase the Konmar and Edah supermarket chains from Laurus NV.
