Dutch grocery retailer Laurus has said like-for-like sales for the first three quarters of the year fell 8.7% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Total sales for the nine months were €2.55bn (US$3.07bn). First-half like-for-like sales slid 8.8%.

Laurus, the second-largest food retailer in the Netherlands in terms of sales, has been struggling amid intense competition in the Dutch grocery retail market where it has been hit by a supermarket price war, reported Reuters.

French grocery retailer Casino has a 45% stake in Laurus.
