Chains in Norway’s Hakon Group announced a project to create greater availability of products for those suffering from various food allergies.
The project, which included taste-testing by milk and gluten allergy sufferers, resulted in a range of 120 gluten-, milk-, egg- and soya-free non-allergenic products heading to Maxi and ICA shops.
The initiative is the result of cooperation between the Hakon Group, Norway’s Asthma and Allergy Federation (NAAF) and the Norwegian Coeliac Association.
About 20% of the Norwegian population has some sort of abnormal reaction to normal food, generally milk or wheat products, according to the NAAF.
The Hakon Group is Norway’s leading integrated food retailer and a subsidiary of ICA Ahold, part of Royal Ahold, the world’s fourth largest retail group.
