Norwegian dairy producer Tine is to launch a low-carb, low-sugar product line.

Despite a mixed reception from nutritional experts, low-carbohydrate regimes are gaining ground in Norway as more people seek assistance to lose weight and maintain their weight loss.

The new line will retail under the Sans brand, reported Dagens Naeringsliv.

Tine represents around 20,000 farmers in Norway and is involved in product development, quality assurance, production and distribution planning, marketing and export of dairy products in Norway. The group exports Norwegian dairy products to Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Sweden, the UK and the USA.

Tine posted a pre-tax profit of NKr166.7m (US$24 m) and a turnover of NKr10.1bn for 2003.
