PepsiCo has opened a production facility for snack products in Saudi Arabia to service Middle Eastern markets.

The 5,000 square metre manufacturing facility, located in Dammam, is PepsiCo’s 15th site in the region. The site will employ 300 people, PepsiCo revealed.

The company said the move will enhance its ability to offer a range of food products to markets throughout the Middle East, including local innovations such as Lays Forono. PepsiCo opened its first innovation centre in the Middle East in Dubai’s Dubiotech two months ago.

Speaking at the opening, PepsiCo chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi said: “The Middle East is a dynamic food and beverage market and a critical engine of growth for PepsiCo. Over the years, PepsiCo and Saudi Arabia have prospered together and the investment in this plant is testament to our belief in PepsiCo’s bright future in this country and the wider region. The plant will be a critical hub for our company, bringing some of PepsiCo’s best-loved snacks and newest innovations to Saudi Arabia and markets throughout the region.”

PepsiCo has said the Middle East is a “key” part of its strategy to drive growth in developing and emerging markets. Emerging markets accounted for 35% of PepsiCo’s net revenue in 2013.
