Post Holdings has announced its commitment to source 100% sustainable palm oil globally by December next year.

The US-based business said it is a "relatively minor" user of palm oil, but nonetheless the company has pledged that what palm oil it does use will not contribute to the further deforestation of the world's rainforests.

To this end, Post has become a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), an organisation which aims to promote the use and growth of sustainable palm oil products. Post has said it intends to work with its suppliers to support the development of a sustainable and cost-effective market for palm oil.

Post operates in the centre-of-the-store, private-label, refrigerated and active nutrition food categories. It is a leader in the ready-to-eat cereal category with brands including Honey Bunches of Oats, Pebbles, Great Grains and Grape-Nuts. The company's assets also include egg producer Michael Foods and the PowerBar sports nutrition business.
